named Dr. Bill Swanson was when he
was seven years old. Now, Dr. Greg operates his own functional medicine clinic - serving those with chronic illness and others who are pursuing optimal health.
Playing football lead to some pretty bad injuries. Between Greg's junior and senior year, he had a second surgery that inspired him to help people.
He’d had experience with Chiropractors, Orthopedic Surgeons, and Physical Therapists, so he decided to shadow an Orthopedic Surgeon for the day.
It was just awesome to see what he did and who he got to be. It was amazing to witness how he got to help people. But at the end of the day he had what turns out to be one of those pivotal conversations with Dr. Greg. He said, “Greg here's the scoop, we live a good life. We have nice stuff. But I'm married to my job. My ability to be a dad and a husband is not really what I truly want it to be.”
That’s when Dr. Greg changed his course and decided not to be an Orthopedic Surgeon. He then went on to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. His freshman year was when a big flood of 1997 took place, and he needed a job.
Dr Greg went home and met another very pivotal person in his life - a rancher named Larry Frei that forever changed who he was and how he does things.
Larry taught Dr. Greg work ethic, what it's like to be on a ranch and how to work with the people that are around you and what that looks like. For example, in ranching towns, when it comes time to work cattle in the springtime you always help your neighbors and you never ask for handouts, you always do the right thing.
“From there,
he knew
that was his calling”
Later that next year Dr. Greg met again with Doctor Bill Swanson in North Dakota. Dr. Bill explained why he was a chiropractor and what it meant to him to be a chiropractor. He explained how he could value his family and his life and how he could help people too.
From there, Dr. Greg knew that was his calling. Literally in two weeks, Dr. Greg had been accepted into Chiropractic school in Bloomington Minnesota. But another pivotal moment struck: during the fall of his first trimester at chiropractic school, his dad was diagnosed with cancer.
When he received the phone call it started more motion and movement in his life. Fast forward and his dad has been cancer free for over 22 years.
The journey with his father going through cancer is what inspired Dr. Greg to get into functional medicine and serve people.
